Reflection #2 (creativity, action)- Assisting Ballet Classes

When I started to become more passionate in dancing ballet, I began to yearn to teach ballet to other students. This eventually became one of my future dreams, to become a ballet teacher. Fortunately, in my ballet academy, Le Conservatoire De Danse De Ballet, my artistic director, Jacqueline, gave me this opportunity to assist baby classes. The moment I heard about this I was very glad and overjoyed. Though I am not a teacher but just an assistant, it was the first step to become one. The class I will be assisting is on Saturday at 9:30am. This time made me a bit worried because usually I would sleep until 10 or 11am on the weekends. But I considered it as a positive thing because it may train me to sleep earlier and wake up earlier.
On September 14, Saturday, it was the first day of class to assist the kids. I was very excited and at the same time nervous. I love children so I didn’t think that I would have a hard time assisting them. However, when we began the class it took me many hands to correct them. There were about 25 students so it was wild and sometimes they were out of control. Within 20 minutes, I was already feeling tired which surprised me because I didn’t know it would be this tiring.

We first demonstrated the exercises without the music, and then the children did it with the teacher and with the music. Although it took a lot of efforts to assist them, the majority of the time was very fun and I enjoyed it. Sometimes I would laugh or giggle because they look so cute when trying to follow the steps. After the class ends, I would give them a sticker and sometimes hug them. Overall, I learned that dealing with children is not so easy and it takes a lot of commitment and patience as well. Later on, I would like to be closer to them and get to remember all of their names someday.
